(Milwaukee) – Democratic gubernatorial candidate Matt Flynn today made the following statement regarding problems in Walker’s approach to addressing the needs of our communities of color.

“For too long, politicians have come into communities they’re not part of, made promises, and implemented their own solutions. They pat themselves on the back, but rarely do the solutions make any profound changes. I am not going to be that governor.

“As governor, my primary focus will be to show respect and to listen to what communities are saying. I will work with them as a partner and collaborator.

“The problems facing our communities of color are real, including high infant mortality rates, achievement gaps in our schools, and incarceration rates.

“Several of the policies I have proposed will already address these problems. By investing in health care, education, and infrastructure, while raising the minimum wage and reversing Walker’s anti-union laws, we can create the conditions for economic prosperity. This will allow our working families, many of whom are from communities of color, to stimulate their neighborhood economies and build wealth.

“But there is more we must do to address broader social issues. This is my approach. We will create dialogue, bringing together community members, academics, the business community, the labor community, and local leaders. We’ll set goals, devise strategies, and implement new policies. What doesn’t work we’ll fix. What does work we’ll expand. This is basic governance, but it’s not happening. Scott Walker and Madison Republicans have deliberately ignored the needs of our communities of color.

“Fortunately, change is around the corner. Wisconsin will move Forward again.”
